'Bramayugam' is titled as one of the highly-anticipated movies of the year 2024. Starring Mammootty in the lead role, Bramayugam is based on the life of Thevan, a folk singer of the Paanan caste, who has a fateful encounter when escaping slavery, leading to discover an ancient tradition altering his destiny. The movie is slated to hit the theatres on February 15, but it has faced a major problem ahead of release.
If the reports are to be believed, Punjamon Illam filed a court petition, objecting to Mammootty's character, Bramayugam, being named Punjamon or Kunjamon Potti, alleging it portrays him practising dark magic. The family approached the Kerala High Court, seeking removal of the name to protect their family’s reputation.
They claimed no prior discussion occurred with the film team, accusing them of intentionally defaming the family. Responding to the court's directive, the makers renamed the character Kunjamon Potti to Kodumon Potti.
'Bramayugam', which translates to "Age of Madness," is an upcoming horror movie in the Malayalam language. It's both written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan, with dialogues penned by T. D. Ramakrishnan. The film is a collaboration between Chakravarthy Ramachandra and S. Sashikanth, produced under Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios.
Recently, the makers unveiled the much-anticipated trailer of Bramayugam. Sharing the announcement on his official X account, Mammootty wrote, “#Bramayugam Trailer is OUT NOW !Malayalam : https://youtube.com/watch?v=55pzldrBRJM Tamil, Telugu, Kannada & Hindi.”
