Manisha Koirala is currently basking in the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The actress has been widely praised for her performance by the audience, critics, and industry people. Sharing one such heartfelt moment when any legend praised her, Koirala revealed that veteran actress Rekha said that she did a marvelous job in the web series. Recalling their conversation, Manisha added that Rekha was the first choice for the role as it was offered to her 18-20 years ago. Reportedly, Rekha attended the premiere of the show where she shared her thoughts about Manisha’s performance.
In an interview with Filmygyan, Manisha said “She was telling me that 18-20 years ago, she was offered this role. Bachcha, I was praying that if I don’t do this role, you should do it. My prayers have come true. You have done it marvelously; you have gone through so much in life and you have brought life to the character.”
Reacting to Rekha’s appreciation, Manisha added “I got teary-eyed and I told her that you are making me cry. Rekha Ji is a goddess. I love her. I had the opportunity of knowing her. She is the most graceful and poetic. What an artist she is. Her voice, dance, style, aesthetics, you name it. She is a very beautiful person.”
At the Los Angeles premiere of Heeramandi, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali said “This was 18 years ago, at one point it was Rekha ji, Kareena and Rani Mukerji. Then it changed into another cast. It was Mahira Khan, the Pakistani actress, at one point, with Imran Abbas and Fawad Khan. But that changed.”
