Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are set to reunite again after Love and War for another project. As per a report by Mid-Day, the filmmaker and the actress have begun discussing the revival of the long-shelved Inshallah.
Amid the growing speculation, fans are questioning whether Shah Rukh Khan will replace Salman Khan in the movie. In earlier reports, Shah Rukh Khan was linked to the project when Salman Khan exited, but there is no official confirmation.
Is Sanjay Leela Bhansali reviving Inshallah with Alia Bhatt?
The latest Inshallah development comes from a Mid-Day report that Bhansali and Alia are in talks to revive the movie. The report mentioned that the movie is not going to be a straightforward revival of the 2019 film.
A source told Mid-Day: “It’s not being looked at as the same film that was announced years ago. The core story remains the same, but the material will be reworked and given a fresh spin.”
Alia herself has previously commented on the movie’s remaking. In a 2024 interview with The Lallantop, she called Inshallah a “brilliant” and “a lovely love story” when asked whether Bhansali could revive it.
When the possibility of replacing Salman was raised, she replied: “Whatever Sanjay sir decides will be the best for the film!”
Bhansali, however, has not officially announced the revival.

Why Did Salman Khan Exit From Inshallah?
Salman Khan himself announced the movie Inshallah in March 2019 with Alia Bhatt as co-star. Bhansali Productions planned it as a major Eid 2020 release, but the project was shelved in August that year.
The production house officially announced that “Bhansali Productions has decided to not go ahead with In-shaa-Allah for now”. No reasons were mentioned.
Producer Jayantilal Gada later confirmed that Salman and Bhansali had disagreed creatively, although he said he did not know the precise details. The Indian Express reported that the disagreement was reportedly connected to the film's ending.
A more detailed account emerged in 2023 from production designer Rupin Suchak. Speaking to News18, Suchak said there had been a “showdown” and that Salman “walked away from the sets.”
He mentioned how far the production had progressed. He said he had spent nine months designing 24 sets, while the team had spent roughly three months scouting locations in the US. One set had already been completed, and, according to Suchak, the team shot with Alia before the production was called off.
Is Shah Rukh Khan Replacing Salman Khan In Inshallah?
There is no official confirmation about Shah Rukh Khan leading in Inshallah instead of Salman Khan.
The speculation came from reports earlier this year. In April 2026, one such report claimed that Bhansali was considering Shah Rukh Khan as the replacement for Salman, with Alia continuing as the female lead.
But the latest Mid-Day report gave some clarity. The report mentioned that Bhansali has not locked the casting of Inshallah. According to the source, Bhansali wants to finish the new material first and finalise the script.

What Is Inshallah About?
The original Inshallah was a romantic drama between 40-year-old businessman and an aspiring actress in her 20s. However, the entire plot is being reworked while keeping the premise of the original story.
As of now, there is no official confirmation about the story or its cast.
The original story had Salman Khan as its lead, and this film would have marked a Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan reunion after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999. Apart from Salman's cameo in Saawariya, Inshallah would have been their first major collaboration in roughly two decades.
For Alia, it was particularly significant. She had spoken about wanting to work with Bhansali since childhood, and Inshallah was originally meant to be that opportunity. Instead, the film's collapse led to Gangubai Kathiawadi, which became a defining role in her career.

For now, Inshallah remains a project in discussion, with Alia Bhatt reportedly back on board but the male lead still undecided. Whether Shah Rukh Khan eventually steps in or Bhansali chooses someone else, the revived film could look very different from the one shelved in 2019.
