Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram S Poduval Accused Of Sexual Harassment, Police Case Registered

The Kerala Police have filed a case of sexual harassment against filmmaker Chidambaram S. Poduval, who is best known for directing the Malayalam blockbuster film Manjummel Boys, which was released in 2024. The case was filed against Poduval after a woman filed a complaint against the filmmaker for sexual harassment in 2022. It has been confirmed that an investigation into the case is currently underway, and the director has yet to respond to the allegations against him.

As per the police officials, the Ernakulam South Police filed the case on Sunday by taking the woman’s statement. The woman has claimed that the incident took place in the year 2022 at her residence in the Elamkulam area of Kochi. According to the report by Hindustan Times, which talked with a senior police officer at Ernakulam Town South station, the woman complainant was also active in the film industry, and this incident occurred in 2022. It has also been stated by the officials that the filmmaker would soon receive a notice asking him to come for the investigation.

Allegations and Legal Charges

The complainant has alleged that the director had entered her apartment without permission and had sexually assaulted the woman. In this case, the police have charged Chidambaram under sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

These sections refer to the assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage the modesty of a woman, as well as sexual harassment offences. It has been stated that the case is still under investigation, and further action will be taken based on the results.

Director’s Career and Recent Success

Chidambaram’s directorial debut was with the 2021 Malayalam film Jan.E.Man. Yet, it is the massive success of Manjummel Boys that brought the director recognition across the country. The survival thriller, inspired by real-life incidents, is one of the highest-grossing films of 2024, with the film reportedly raking in more than Rs 240 crore worldwide.

The director is also set to make his Hindi film debut with Phantom Studios. Yet, as of now, the director has not responded to the allegations.
