For the unversed, 'Manjummel Boys' is based on a true incident that took place in 2006 and focuses on a group of friends, whose trip to Kodaikanal took a different turn after one of the boys fell into Guna Caves. A group of friends from Manjummel, in 2006, took a trip to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu and decided to explore Guna Caves, which are also known for many people who disappeared without a trace after they went in for exploration. Among the friends, one of the boys named Subhash reportedly fell into the cave and the authorities were unable to find him. Subhash's friend Siju reportedly took the matters into his own hand after the authorities couldn't help the boys. Siju went into the dangerous cave, found Subhash, who was injured, and took him out safely.
In an interview with The New Indian Express, Subhash revealed if he regrets his trip to Guna Caves. He said, "Yes. But now, I see people are drawing inspiration from my story. I am told it is helping motivate those who are in distress. Also, old-time friends have started to reconnect. Earlier, I used to wonder why I was spared. I see it now – maybe to lend hope to others. I am grateful to God for it."
Directed and written by Chidambaram, the movie stars Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman, Chandu Salimkumar, Shebin Benson, and Vishnu Reghu.
