Manoj Bajpayee has established himself as an influential public figure, transforming from an outsider to a celebrated actor with his standout performances over the years. Well aware of the industry politics, Manoj, who worked with another outsider and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the movie Sonchiriya, recalled how he advised him to develop a thick skin for his survival.
In a chat with Mid-Day, Manoj remembered his discussions with Sushant about the industry and its politics. He said, "As far as the industry is concerned, we used to have chats about the industry and its politics. I always told him to keep thick skin nahi toh yeh jaan maar degi tumhari. I had thick skin because I had faced so many rejections. It was a part of my life but a lot of my friends didn’t have that thick skin. They couldn’t face rejections like I did."
The Family Man star also shared some interesting stories from on and off the sets of Sonchiriya with Sushant. "He was a moody guy, and so am I. The sets of Sonchiriya had me, Ashutosh Rana, Ranvir Shorey and Sushant. We all had our off days. Just before the pandemic, when I went out to shoot, he had called me and said, ‘Manoj bhai, I really crave the mutton you cook so next time when you make it, please invite me over," Manoj recalled.
Praising the late actor, Manoj said, “Nobody knows what happened to him. All of us are just assuming and guessing. I have worked with him, and I can say he wasn’t a mad guy. He was very well-versed in many things. He was a voracious reader. I saw him reading all the time, both on and off the set. He had great knowledge of quantum physics. He would talk to me about spiritualism and compare it to quantum physics. He had a fantastic mind. I don’t want to jump to conclusions because I really don’t know what happened to him. Even the CBI has yet to come to a conclusion."

Manoj also revealed how Sushant’s death deeply affected him. "I must tell you, his death hit me so badly that I was sad for three months, as if I had known him personally and closely," the actor added. Sushant Singh Rajput tragically passed away by alleged suicide in June 2020.
Sushant made his entry into the entertainment industry with shows like Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Pavitra Rishta. He then ventured into films, making his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che. His film credits include MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Shuddh Desi Romance, Chhichhore, and others. The actor's last film was Dil Bechara, where he starred alongside Sanjana Sanghi.
