Anand Movie Review:  Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Anand was released in 1971. The film centres around the life of Anand, suffering from a terminal disease. His zeal to live life to the fullest brings change not only in Dr Bhaskar Banerjee's outlook towards life but also in the audience's perspective.  When I first watched the movie in the 2000s, it somehow hit the spot with its iconic dialogue, "Babumoshai, zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahi." By the end, I wasn’t just watching the movie Anand. I was listening to him and resonating with him. I have watched it many times, a hard film to watch, but it shows life as it truly is.

When I re-watched the film, it gave me positivity and motivation to live life to the fullest, to remain cheerful while fighting inner battles and to be determined to extract as much pleasure as possible from the remaining lifespan. Anand offers a beautiful reminder that life is today, it was not yesterday, and it will not be the same tomorrow.

Why Movie Anand Still Continues To Resonate In 2025-26

In 2025, everything around me is about being productive, deadlines, notifications, doing more, living more and optimising every second. In such a rush, we forget to be ourselves and live life a little more peacefully. We talk about the future as if it's a kind of race that we can't afford to lose at any cost, even sacrificing personal lives. Death is treated like a technical glitch, something to avoid mentioning, and a feeling that one day technology might fix it. While there was Anand, who taught us to pause, breathe, laugh, smile and choose joy even while knowing his time was limited. This 1970s film surprised me the most with how modern it felt. Rajesh Khanna played Anand's character so well that no one else could. His nuances and the beauty of craft that actually captivated me and surely many other viewers as well.

In the movie, he didn't deny reality; he didn't escape into distractions and simply lived life fully. In the year 2025, where people hide behind avatars and filters, his openness and honesty felt almost rebellious. He became friends with strangers. Amitabh Bachchan stepped into the shoes of doctor Bhaskar, a character many of us can relate to, tired of the cruelty of life and feeling extremely helpless personally, especially in love life. Anand brings him back on track, and for Bhaskar, Anand was not just a patient; he became a friend that he didn't want to lose.

The Real Life Message In Anand

Hrishikesh Mukherjee, one of the finest directors, who gave many classic films and Anand is one of them. This film teaches us a powerful lesson- to be the Anand of your own lives in any situation. In 2025, mental health is discussed everywhere on social media, yet loneliness feels heavier than ever. Anand's cheerful nature was not about ignoring pain; it was about refusing to let pain and disease take over and be the only truth. That idea and way of living hit me harder than any motivational video ever could.

Some of the iconic dialogues delivered by Rajesh Khanna that brought small but meaningful changes in my life, such as "Maut ke daar se agar zinda rehna chodh diya, toh maut kise kehte hai. Kyu, dost" and "Babumoshai, hamari mushkil malum hai, kya hai? Hum aane wale gham ko kheech tan ke aaj ki khushi pe le aate hai aur uss khushi main zeher ghol dete hai, Babumoshai main aaj thode marne wala hu, aur mar bhi gaya toh yahi rahunga tumhare saath"
