Gita or Quran?- General Hamid Iqbal’s question to a group of Hindustanis during the first few minutes of ‘Gadar 2: The Katha Contiues’ leaves a lasting impact. With a sword in his hand, he executes a dozen people at once and prepares for what to come next. The gory scene is enough to leave anyone trembling but also introgued to know what will happen next.
Despite 'Gadar 2' clashing with Akshay Kumar's eagerly anticipated movie 'OMG 2', the movie demonstrated how a remake should be made. Sunny Deol plays Tara Singh once again, although he was first hesitant to do so since he thought films like ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ could only be produced once in human history. With the first half of the film, one can feel that Sunny Deol made the right choice by returning as Tara Singh.
Gadar 2: Plot
Tara Singh returns to Pakistan in 1971, against the backdrop of the "Crush India Campaign", on a personal mission to save his son Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh, who is being held captive and tortured by Pakistani forces led by Major General Hamid Iqbal. How Tara Singh enters Pakistan and brings his son back makes the crux of Gadar 2.
Gadar 2: What Works?
Who said a perfect start doesn’t exist? Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel capture the audience’s hearts from the beginning itself. Director Anil Sharma begin with a quick background of Tara and Sakina’s love story from the film’s first part - ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. Sharma made sure to include a patriotic theme in the movie, which is unquestionably one of the reasons why the first installment performed so well at the box office in 2001.
It's impressive to see Sunny Deol make his brash entrance into the Pakistani village of his late in-laws. During the 'Crush India Movement', Tara Singh enters into Pakistan to bring his son back to India, who has been caught by General Qadir. Though his roar is enough to scare the General (played by Manish Wadhwa), he takes a break and analyzes things ahead of escaping his son Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma).
Top Notch Action
Gadar 2 should come with a disclaimer that once you have taken your seat, tighten your belts because hell is about to breakdown.
Sunny Deol and Utkarsh Sharma’s high-octane action sequences are choreographed to blow the minds. Striking the hammer stronger than that of Thor’s, Sunny Deol shows how it’s done when it comes to action. There is a scene where he uproots the tower with both his hands. The scene is executed perfectly with equal proportions of lightning, BG score and effects.
Gadar 2: What Doesn’t Work?
Gadar 2 managed to keep up the audience's high expectations, although Anil Sharma's directing had some minor flaws. The technical glitch between a few of the sequences were evidently noticeable. Prior to Tara Singh and Sakina's romantic scene during Jeete's birthday celebration, there is a scene with a power outage. You'll be left wondering, "What just happened?". The classic sequence from the movie appears to have escaped the editor's attention.
'Gadar 2' songs are a treat to listen, but the production team concentrated too much on it. It would have worked much better if there were less songs.
Gadar 2: Cast Performances
Not five, ten or fifteen, this time Sunny Deol throws away 20 men in one go.
Sunny Deol roars louder in 'Gadar 2: The Katha Continues'. It's admirable how he observed his adversaries' faces while eyeing to uproot the handpump. Deol’s chemistry with Ameesha Patel is appealing from the beginning, especially when she falls in his arms. That eye contact melts everybody’s hearts
Ameesha Patel deserves appreciation for her naive performance, just like in 'Ek Prem Katha'. Hats off to her acting as she tries to locate Tara Singh under the assumption that the Pakistani army has captured him.
Utkarsh Sharma plays a perfect son in this patriotic actioner. Though he didn’t match Tara Singh’s energy, his performance will surely leave you impressed. Simrat Kaur did her job perfectly as if it was made for her.
MANISH WADHWA IS ON FIRE!
Manish Wadhwa, who is regarded as one of the best performers in the B-town industry, managed to instill fear in the audience's minds due to his excellent acting abilities.
Gadar 2: Final Verdict
Anil Sharma's smart presentation showcasing one of the most complicated after-stories of what transpired after Pakistan accepted Sakina's Hindu spouse Tara Singh, connected just like its first part. As a huge Gadar fan, I strongly advise you to watch this cult classic this weekend with your whole family.
Top notch action sequences, heavy dialogues, chemistry between the cast members and Sunny Deol’s hammer- everything makes ‘Gadar 2: The Katha Continues’ a perfect massy entertainer.
