Vineet Kumar Singh, who made his acting debut in 2002 with Pitaah, spoke about his journey after his 2017 movie Mukkabaaz, and he talked about how his career hasn't progressed as he had hoped. During an exclusive conversation with Jagran English, the actor also opened up about doing diverse genres once done by the late actor Irrfan Khan.

Vineet Kumar Singh also acknowledged that he had chosen serious roles in his career so far, but he also emphasised that they have all been rather distinct from one another in the same conversation.

Having grown up in a joint household, Vineet claimed to have been a part of a large family madness all of his life. However, he hasn't been able to explore that shade of himself in the acting business. The actor, who was keen to explore this genre in movies, said, "I would love to do something like Hera Pheri, Dhamaal."

Talking about doing movies like Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium or Piku, he continued, "I would like to do jo film Irfan (Khan) bhai ne ki, Hindi Medium or something like that. I would love to do Piku, I would love to do so many films like that. Yeh side mujhe abhi as an actor explore karne ka mauka hi nahi mila hai."

Vineet Kumar Singh Recalls Struggles After Mukkabaaz

Even after seven years, Mukkabaaz remains a landmark, largely due to Vineet Kumar Singh's outstanding performance. His depiction of Shravan Singh consistently impresses, demonstrating his talent as one of the most talented performers in Indian cinema. Mukkabaaz explores the difficulties faced by a boxer from a lower caste as they deal with social constraints.

Recalling pitching Mukkabaaz to the makers, he realised nobody was ready to cast him as a boxer. Vineet Kumar Singh said, "Jab tak aapki profile mein koi aisi film nahi aati toh bohot kam logo aapke saath kuch experiment karte hai. The day I get that opportunity in a role like Hera Pheri for light-hearted roles, then I'll do many films like those."

Vineet Kumar Singh stated that had his movie Mukkabaaz done well at the box office, there would been his lead movies like this in theatres. He wouldn't have had to go through what he went through after Mukkabaaz had it been a profitable movie.

"Mein abhi Mythri Movie Makers ke saath South mein ek film kar raha hoon , Hindi film hai Sunny Deol sir ki, logo ne Mukkabaaz jhadam jhadam jhaad dekhi hai, unko believe hi nahi hota ki yeh film ka box office bada nahi hai. Box office har cheez ko dominate kar raha hai. Aapke talent se kahi zyaada zaroori aapka box office hai. No dount bina talent ke aapko kaam nahi milega, aap zyada din chal nahi paaoge, agar aapka box office ek baar lag jaata hai toh aapko bohot aazadi milti hai, " he added.

Pouring his heart out, the actor continued, "I was hurt after Mukkabaaz, my heart was full of pain. Mein hide karta tha woh dard because itni mehnat kari thhi. Normal life mein log 1 ghnate, 2 ghanta exercise karte hai, mene 7-7 ghanta, 6 ghante training kari hai, din mein 4 baar trainig kari hai. Mera din 4:30 shuru ho jaata tha. Kese karta tha, mujhe pata hai. Meri expectation badh gayi thhi."

For the unversed, Vineet Kumar Singh didn't work in movies again until 2007's Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii, following the 2002 movie Hathyar. He was praised for his roles in movies such as City of Gold, Gangs of Wasseypur, Bombay Talkies, Ugly and Mukkabaaz. He was last seen in Match Fixing (2025), and he will now come back stronger than ever in Superboys of Malegaon, Jaat and Chhaava.
