Nevertheless: The beloved 2021 Korean drama, starring Han So-Hee and Song Kang, is set to receive a Japanese remake titled The Shapes of Love. Known for exploring modern relationships and emotional nuances, Nevertheless made waves on Netflix globally and remained in the platform's Global Top 10 for non-English series for seven weeks, even landing in Japan's Top 10 list across several streaming platforms for 13 weeks.

The Japanese version, The Shapes of Love, will premiere on December 9 and stream on Netflix, alongside the local platform Abema. Directed by Ryutaro Nakagawa, the remake will star Japanese actor Ryusei Yokohama in the male lead role. However, the identity of the actress playing the female lead has yet to be revealed. According to production company SLL JoongAng, the adaptation is set in the picturesque city of Kamakura, Japan, and will span eight episodes.

With an approach similar to Nevertheless, The Shapes of Love aims to delve deeply into the impulsive yet fragile emotions of its main characters. The production team shared that the series will focus on the emotional allure and potential heartbreak of falling in love, emphasizing the risks that come with pursuing intense yet uncertain connections.

Nevertheless, it follows the journey of two main characters: Yoo Na-Bi (Han So-Hee) and Park Jae-Eon (Song Kang). Yoo Na-Bi, who is sceptical of love but open to dating, meets Park Jae-Eon, a charming flirt who shuns commitment. The two are drawn to each other, sparking a relationship that’s intense and full of complications. The chemistry between Han So-Hee and Song Kang was widely praised, even becoming one of the highlights of the show.

While Nevertheless didn’t initially meet expectations in Korea, it quickly gained international popularity, captivating audiences outside of Korea through its raw portrayal of modern romance. Its impressive run on Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English TV shows reflected its impact, and it became a favourite in Japan.
