Aamir Khan made his directorial debut with his latest release Sitaare Zameen Par. It was the spiritual sequel to his movie Taare Zameen Par. The second installation of the franchise was as powerful as the first one. Taare Zameen Par ignited crucial conversations, leading to increased awareness of dyslexia. At the same time, Sitaare Zameen Par offered an insight into how people understood neurodiversity in India. Actor Aamir Khan has always chosen a unique approach in his working style, and once again, the star decided to take a different stride for the release of his movie.

Aamir Khan decided to release Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube on a pay-per-view model, instead of selling it to a giant OTT platform. The movie was made available to rent on YouTube on August 1, 2025, at a price of Rs 100. But it was reported that Apple device users are facing a problem while renting the movie, as the cost reflected was Rs 179. Apple device users expressed their disappointment over the same.

Since Aamir Khan is not on social media, the actor’s production house took to their official X (Twitter) handle and apologised for the technical glitch. Giving reassurance to the netizens, Aamir’s production house wrote, “Our sincere apologies. We just became aware that the cost to rent our film Sitaare Zameen Par is reflecting as ₹179 on Apple devices. We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Recently, Aamir Khan apologised during a press conference for lying about releasing his movie on YouTube. The actor was questioned whether he knew about Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release, and why he lied about it. Reacting to this, Aamir responded with folded hands and said that he was really sorry, but he had to protect the movie’s theatrical business.

He mentioned, "I fold my hands and apologise because I lied when I said Sitaare Zameen Par wouldn’t be released on YouTube. I did it because I had no other choice. I had to protect the film’s theatrical business. I am very loyal to theatres, my life began with cinema. So, I have always strived to protect the theatrical business of my films. Still, I apologise because I had to lie. Otherwise, my dreams for this film would’ve ended there."

He further spoke about his belief that movies released on OTT platforms after their theatrical release didn’t fare well for the film industry. The Dangal star also sparked a conversation about cinema affordability and raised concerns over the rising cost of the moviegoing experience. He shared his vision to make movies more accessible to the masses through his official YouTube channel.
