Ahmedabad Plane Crash: A devastating plane crash occurred on Thursday, June 12, 2025, when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The London-bound flight AI171 was carrying 242 passengers and crew members, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Unfortunately, at least 241 people reportedly lost their lives in the tragic incident, with only one person believed to have survived the crash. Comedian Vir Das has come forward to support Air India amid the intense backlash following the crash.

I've flown Air India all my life. It is not an airline without problems, but without fail, I know them to be the best crew in the sky." He added, "Time will tell what happened on this tragic flight. I cannot imagine how hard it is for them to do their job right now, having lost their own. For the crew, just to say one stands with you. And hopes to see you soon on a flight"

The aircraft crashed into a building near BJ Medical College's doctors' hostel in Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar locality just 33 seconds after takeoff. Among the deceased is former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and reportedly said, "The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words." Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site, describing the scale of devastation as ‘unimaginable.’ An inquiry panel has been formed to investigate the cause of the crash.
