Born Govardhan Asrani, Asrani passed away in Mumbai on October 20 at approximately 4 PM following a protracted illness. The actor's final ceremonies were also conducted at the Santacruz cremation in the city. Akshay Kumar is 'speechless' following the sudden demise of well-known actor and comedian, who passed away at the age of 84. The Housefull 5 actor said that he had filmed multiple sequences with the late legendary actor for his upcoming film, Haiwaan. Akshay Kumar acknowledged that this is a huge loss for our industry in his heartfelt post on social media.

Akshay Kumar paid a heartfelt homage to Asrani, with whom he collaborated on a number of films, including Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Khatta Meetha, late on Monday on X, formerly known as Twitter. He wrote, "Speechless with grief at the passing of Asrani ji. We had just shared the warmest of hugs just a week back at the shoot of Haiwaan. Bahot pyare insaan the…he had the most legendary comic timing."

Akshay Kumar added, "From all my cult films Hera Pheri to Bhagam Bhag to De Dana Dan, Welcome and now our unreleased Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan…I had worked and learned so much from him. What an absolute loss to our industry. God bless you Asrani Sir, for giving us a million reasons to laugh. Om Shanti."

Akshay Kumar also shared a photo with Asrani wherein he was seated behind the late actor as he rides a scooty. It looked like the picture was taken during a scene in one of Akshay Kumar's next movies. For those who are unaware, Asrani will feature in two posthumous films, both of which are directed by Priyadarshan: Haiwaan and Bhoot Bangla.

Govardhan Asrani's Illustrious Career

Asrani rose to prominence as one of the most beloved actor in Hindi film over the course of a career that lasted over fifty years. Known for his passionate performances and flawless comedic timing, he starred in more than 350 movies. Among his several performances, his portrayal of the jail warden in the seminal film Sholay from 1975 is still a staple of Indian popular culture. He has also starred in Welcome, R... Rajkumar, Bunty Aur Babli 2, Dhamaal, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Hindi cinema will never be the same without Asrani's iconic on-screen persona and hilarious timing. For centuries to come, his status as one of India's most adored comedy actors will remain.

Govardhan Asrani is survived by his wife, Manju Asrani, his sister, and nephew.
