The Bengal Files Release: Following the National Award-winning films The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), Vivek Agnihotri's Files trilogy continues with the third installment, The Bengal Files. Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Priyanshu Chatterjee, and Saswata Chatterjee star in this hard-hitting political drama. A special screening of The Bengal Files will take place in Kolkata on September 13th, a week following its theatrical debut throughout India on September 5th.
The Bengal Files, which examines moments from the state's troubled past, has heightened the political overtones despite its worldwide release because it hasn't been shown in Bengal theaters.
When And Where To Watch The Bengal Files In Bengal?
The Bengal Files' unique performance is strictly by invitation only and will take place on September 13 at 4 PM at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhasha Bhavan, National Library. In a Facebook post, former Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta confirmed the news, igniting further discussion over the contentious film's route.
Pallavi Joshi's Emotional Open Letter To President
Pallavi Joshi, the film's actor-producer and star, wrote President Droupadi Murmu an impassioned open letter pleading for his support. In her plea, she wrote, "Respected Madam President. With a heavy heart, I reach out to you, not for favours, but for protection. The Bengal Files, the final part of the Files Trilogy, releases on 5th September. It tells the long-suppressed truth of the Hindu genocide of Direct Action Day, the horrors of Noakhali, and the trauma of Partition. But in West Bengal, truth is under siege. Years before completion, the Chief Minister mocked the film."
Pallavi Joshi's remark highlights the project's emotional significance and captures the opposition the team says they have faced.
The Bengal Files' unofficial prohibition in Bengal has also been criticised by a number of cinema organizations, including FWICE and IMPPA.
The Bengal Files PLOT
Shiv Pandit (Darshan Kumaar) and Bharati Banerjee (Pallavi Joshi) tell the story, which takes place in 1946 in Calcutta (now Kolkata) against the backdrop of Direct Action Day. Shiv, who lost everything in the riots, and Bharati, who is still plagued by the wounds from the 1990s Kashmiri Pandit migration, are both troubled by their pasts. When a young girl disappears in the current day, suspicion is placed on Bharati and MLA Sardar Husseini (Saswata Chatterjee), bringing their lives together.
