Recently, the director Anurag Basu came forward to reveal how Arijit’s decision did not surprise him at all. Basu also shared how the singer once asked him to make him his assistant as he wanted to explore life from behind the camera.

Adding fuel to the fire, Anurag Basu, recently, in a conversation with BBC Hindi, revealed that Arijit's decision didn't shock him at all. Basu also hailed the singer for his talent. He said, "The world was in shock after learning about Arijit Singh’s decision, but I was not at all surprised or shocked. I have known him for a long time and feel he is very talented and wishes to do more apart from singing."
Anurag also revealed a special request that Arijit made during the shoot of Barfi. Recalling the conversation, he added, "He asked me to make him an assistant in Barfi!"

Arijit Singh took to his Instagram to share the heartbreaking news of his retirement with his fans and well-wishers. He wrote, "Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
