Anurag Kashyap, renowned for his honesty and willingness to speak his mind, has long been a polarising figure in the Indian film industry. His career has been marked by bold statements and controversial stances, often putting him at odds with the establishment and attracting significant criticism. While many shy away from him, Anurag Kashyap still has enduring friendships and supportive people in his life, including actors Manoj Bajpayee and Piyush Mishra. Though both friends have, on occasion, voiced their disapproval of Kashyap's impulsiveness, their bonds are built on mutual respect, honesty and a shared history.
Anurag Kashyap, during a recent interview with News 18 Showsha, revealed that he has a unique dynamic with Piyush Mishra, as the actor often gets upset when he gets too blunt about the industry. Anurag Kashyap exclaimed, “He loves me. He also gets upset when I react. He tells me, ‘Why do you do that? Just stop.’ He says he wasted too much of his life reacting to things and advises me not to follow the same path.”

Further, the director discussed his bond with Manoj Bajpayee, who is like an elder brother to him. “When I do or say something, Manoj tells me, ‘Yaar, tum kyun karte ho aise?’ (Why do you do such things? He’s very practical and experienced. But at the same time, I know he always has my back. He’s like an elder brother to me….even though he looks ten times younger. He has always looked out for me and gives me the most honest advice,” he shared.
Gangs of Wasseypur director further stated that he has never flaunted his bonds with people and that all these friendships have always been silent, including the ones with Vikramaditya Motwane and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Anurag Kashyap expressed that people don’t know what to talk to him, as he has nothing else to discuss apart from cinema.
On the work front, Anurag Kashyap’s recently released crime drama Nishaanchi has been receiving praise from the audience. Apart from that, Anurag Kashyap has several other projects on the horizon. Another of his upcoming directorial ventures is Bandar, an urban drama starring Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Additionally, Kashyap will make a notable appearance in the bilingual movie Dacoit: A Love Story, set for release on December 25, 2025.
