Apne 2 Update: The demise of Dharmendra has left a void in the hearts of people and in Hindi cinema. The members of the film fraternity and his fans have called it 'End of an Era'. The veteran actor had a line-up of upcoming movies, one of them being Apne 2 with his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. A film that brought the real father-son trio together for the first time to share the screen in a Hindi sports drama movie, released in 2007. However, the demise of Dharmendra has also left the director Anil Sharma heartbroken. He recently revealed that without the late actor, it’s impossible to make Apne 2.

Apne 2 Shelved After Dharmendra’s Death

Anil Sharma opened up about how the script and everything else were tracked for the Apne sequel, but now things cannot move forward. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the director said, “Apne to apno ke bina nahi ho sakti. Without Dharamji, it’s impossible to make the sequel. Everything was on track and the script was ready, but he left us. Some dreams remain unfulfilled. Without him, it’s not possible!"

Earlier, Anil revealed how Dharmendra cried after listening to the script. He told News 18 Showsha, “It wasn’t difficult to convince them to come together for Apne. All three of them wanted to do a film together, and they wanted me to make it. The day the story of Apne came to me, they were overjoyed. When I narrated the story to Dharam ji, he cried. When Bobby heard the script, he hugged me."

Anil Sharma and Dharmendra have previously collaborated on films including Hukumat, Farishtay, Tahalka, and Apne. They were set to reunite for Apne 2, but due to the sudden death of Bollywood's He-Man, everything came to an end.

About Apne: Set against the backdrop of the boxing world, the 2007 movie explored the father-son bonding, reconciliation and the passion for pursuing a father's dreams. Besides Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol, the film also starred Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty and Kirron Kher.

Meanwhile, Dharmendra’s last film Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan, will arrive in cinemas on December 25. The war drama also stars Agastya Nanda.
