BTS Jungkook, aka Jeon Jungkook, issued an apology after wearing a controversial cap at a recent event, which read, “Make Tokyo Great Again”. It is a similar slogan to Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again.’ Jungkook wore a black hat which had the phrase “Make Tokyo Great Again” at a rehearsal of his fellow BTS member Jhope for ‘Hope On The Stage’ final concert at Goyang Stadium. A photo of Jungkook from the rehearsal went viral on social media which led to a major controversy. After receiving the backlash, the Kpop star issued an apology on Weverse on June 14 KST.

Jungkook wrote, “Hello, this is Jungkook. My heart is heavy over the fact that I am writing this right after our reunion. I sincerely apologize for disappointing and displeasing many people through the hat I wore during rehearsal. It was due to my inadequacy that I went on stage wearing a hat without checking the historical and political meaning held in the words, and for that, I am deeply reflecting on myself.”

“I’m just sorry. There’s no room for excuses. It was my inadequacy and carelessness which brought about this situation. From now on, I will act with greater care and consideration. I will humbly accept all criticism and judgment directed toward me for my mistake.” He concluded, “The hat was disposed of immediately. Once again, I apologize.”

After Jungkook’s statement, several fans came in support of him. A user on X wrote, “Ugh, its unfortunate that he wore that. Glad he apologized.” Another said, “I don’t know who started the issue with the hat he wore but they need to check themselves. It’s just a hat. It’s sad that people have to fear getting cancelled for wearing a freakn hat. Ridiculous.” A tweet read, “It was just a hat. A design. Nothing more. Why must everything be turned into a scandal? He just came back from serving his country, can’t he even wear what he wants without being torn apart? Please let him live freely.” Another said, “There is nothing wrong with you, Jung Kook, wearing that hat! @BTS_twt Those fans and people who criticised you wearing that hat are the ones with deep problems actually. Why criticize you for wearing that hat??? There’s nothing wrong with that hat!”
