BTS members V and Jungkook’s ongoing legal battle with YouTuber Sojang has an update. The two parties attended a court-led mediation session on July 21, but were unable to reach a settlement. The failed mediation means the defamation case will now proceed to a full trial. The goal of the mediation was to encourage open dialogue between the two parties, helping them come to a fair and peaceful resolution. Unfortunately, no agreement was reached, and the court officially ruled the mediation as failed. With this, the case will now return to a full trial process in court.

According to reports in Star Today, the mediation session took place at 9:40 am KST (6:10 am IST) on July 21 at the Seoul Western District Court. The court had earlier suggested this mediation process on June 16 in hopes of settling the case without further litigation. However, despite the court’s efforts, both sides were unable to find common ground.

What Is The Case About?

The case dates back to January 2025, when BTS members V and Jungkook filed a lawsuit against Sojang, the creator of the YouTube channel Taldeok Camp. The duo accused Sojang of spreading false and damaging rumours about them through her videos. Earlier this year, in February 2025, the Seoul Western District Court had already ruled in favour of the BTS members. The court found that Sojang had posted 23 defamatory videos between October 2021 and June 2023, targeting V and Jungkook. These videos, shared over the course of nearly two years, were said to contain false and harmful claims.

The court then ordered Sojang to pay 76 million KRW (approximately ₹47 lakh or $53,000) in damages which is slightly less than the 90 million KRW originally sought by V and Jungkook. The amount was reduced due to the fact that it was her first offence and she had shown some remorse.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Sojang has faced legal consequences. She has previously lost other defamation lawsuits as well. These include cases filed by IVE’s Jang Wonyoung and former Wanna One member Kang Daniel. Her repeated involvement in such cases has raised concerns over the type of content she regularly uploads on her YouTube channel.

What Happens Next?

With mediation declared unsuccessful, the case will now go back to the regular trial procedure. This means more hearings and legal arguments as both sides prepare to present their evidence and statements in front of the judge. As the trial continues, all eyes will be on the Seoul court to see how this high-profile case unfolds.
