In the world of Bollywood romantic sequels, a new follow-up brews up to the 2019 De De Pyaar De. The original cast, Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, reprise their roles as Ashish Mehra and Ayesha Khurana. However, Tabu does not appear in De De Pyaar De 2, while the film introduces a new addition, R Madhavan. The new film is directed by Anshul Sharma, replacing the original film's director Akiv Ali. The romantic comedy drama explores themes like humour, chemistry, and engaging family drama. De De Pyaar De 2 carries forward the central theme of age-gap relationships but adds a new layer and twist. This time, there is a new love interest and a new villain in the love story of Ashish and Ayesha.

When De De Pyaar De 2 hit the theatres on November 14, it created a stir among audiences and critics and received a strong reception. Thanks to its fresh storyline blended with new layers, characters and powerful performances by returning and new cast. Ahead of its release, the film generated significant buzz, but is the movie really worth the hype?

Is De De Pyaar De 2 Worth The Hype?

The sequel picks up right after the first part. Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) wants to introduce Ashish (Ajay Devgan) to her modern family. They claim to be liberal and open-minded, but everything changes when they learn about their daughter dating a man double her age. Ayesha's father, Rakesh (R Madhavan), resorts to various tactics, leading to new family dynamics conflicts. The film is perceived as fun, light-hearted, filled with laughter and intense drama. Ashish tries to win Ayesha's parents, Rakesh and Anju (Gautami Kapoor), who call themselves progressive and are heard saying 'hum modern log hain,' but accepting a man nearly a daughter's father's age is a test of how modern they truly are. The sudden change in Ayesha's parents' attitude, the entry of Meezaan Jafri as a distraction in Ashish and Ayesha's relationship and the confrontation between Ajay and Madhavan give the film momentum.

Ajay Devgn once again impressed audiences with his charm, effortless comedy and emotional moments. Rakul Preet Singh has a strong presence; she is not a helpless girl and cannot be easily manipulated or tricked by her older boyfriend and her family. A new addition, R Madhavan, proved to be the film's strongest and standout performer, nailing the nuanced portrayal of a father who is egotistic and family-oriented at the same time. His chemistry with his Rajji (Gautami Kapoor), one-liners and the reference to his film Shaitan have been widely praised.
