Deepak Dobriyal is a celebrated name in the Hindi film industry, with major iconic roles under his umbrella, like Pappi Tiwari from Tanu Weds Manu and its sequel, Gopi Bansal from Angrezi Medium, Shyam Prakash Kori from Hindi Medium and others. He is known for his impeccable comic timing and hilarious expressions. His ability to breathe life into comedic sidekick roles has made him an audience favourite and a go-to actor for many filmmakers seeking to add humour to their movies. However, this very success has become a major challenge for the actor, who has finally talked about being typecast primarily in comedy.
Deepak Dobriyal, during a recent interview with SCREEN, revealed that major production houses have often approached him with repetitive, one-dimensional comic characters. “There isn’t a single production house in Mumbai that hasn’t called me. Be it anyone. Even the biggies. But the problem is the repetition. If a comic role has worked, then the next dozen would be comic. In every film they ask you to do the same thing. And then I’m like, please don’t cast me in the same mould. No doubt, I’ll do it, but let me first try something new. I’m always keen on playing different shades,” he shared.

The Omkara actor also mentioned that if any one comedic character has created such a huge impact that makers want him to do something similar to that role, it's like an appreciation. But the only problem Deepak has been facing is that this limits his craft. Despite being typecast, the actor shared that slowly and steadily, things have been changing. People have approached him with different offers, especially after his movie Sector 36, which also starred the National Award winner, Vikrant Maseey.
