Deepika Padukone Says She's Constantly Looking For Drama, Love Story: 'Dhurandhar And All Is Alright But...'

Deepika Padukone opened up about her desire to star in a romantic comedy during a special meet-and-greet with fans in Mumbai on January 4, 2026. She mentioned 'constantly looking for drama, love story,' as one of her favorite genres, despite her admiration for her actor-husband Ranveer Singh's spy thriller Dhurandhar (2025). Her fan asked her when will they see her in a romantic comedy again. She grinned without hesitation and expressed her hope that it will happen 'very, very soon.'

Deepika Padukone called romantic comedies one of her favorite genres and acknowledged how much she misses the genre, as an actor and audience. She also talked candidly on the state of film today. She claime that lighter genres have become less popular because consumers today appear to be searching for something different. However, she continued, it is obvious that a sizable portion of the public wants a romantic comedy since so many fans are requesting one.

Deepika Padukone said, "I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my favourite genres, as an audience, and also as an actor. I just feel like the climate right now or the environment right nowI feel like the audience is seeking something else. But if so many of you want a rom-com, I’m sure that’s a large part of the public that wants that."

Deepika Padukone With Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh or Hrithik?

After Deepika Padukone's comment, one audience member blurted out Hrithik Roshan's name, and another demanded that the romantic comedy have two male leads. The host then quickly polled the audience to find out who they thought the actor should co-star with in this possible romantic comedy. Hrithik, Shah Rukh Khan, and Ranveer were among the choices.

Ranveer Singh earned the greatest applause, while Hrithik and Shah Rukh were showered with affection. Deepika repeated the statement with a smile, obviously enjoying the audience's excitement, when the emcee sarcastically said, "Dhurandhar and all is alright."

Deepika Padukone didn't hesitate to confront the realities of the profession. Before pointing out a more significant problem, she asked supporters if they would mind if she made a romantic comedy for OTT rather than theaters. She claims that at the moment, authors and producers are reluctant to spend money on lighter genres.

The Piku actor disclosed that while her team is always searching for romance, drama, and love-themed screenplays, very few authors are now penning or supporting these kinds of themes.
