Renowned actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Delhi's Tihar Jail on February 5, 2026, in connection with a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. However, a few days later, the court granted him interim bail on the condition that he deposit a portion of the outstanding amount. Now, Rajpal Yadav has spoken about the biggest controversy of his life. He not only discussed the support he received from the industry and the public's opinion, but also revealed that the reason he went to jail was not because he lacked the Rs 5 crore; rather, the actual reason was something else entirely.

Rajpal Yadav recently broke his silence about about the controversy on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast. When asked—given that he has done over 250 films—why people felt that repaying 5 crore rupees would not have been a difficult task for him, Rajpal Yadav responded immediately, saying, "That is precisely my question. The day people grasp this point, they will understand my case as well. I did not go to jail simply because I lacked funds; it was a matter of issues and principles far greater than that. This matter could have been resolved as early as 2012."

The actor also claimed that, as a result of this controversy, he had to suffer a massive financial loss ranging from Rs 17 to Rs 22 crore. He stated, "Rs 12 crore had already been invested in the project and eventually, it evolved into a Rs 22 crore venture. Even if your sworn enemy is involved in a project, it should still be allowed to be released. Let the audience be the ones to decide. In this industry, 100 films are produced; out of these, 80 fail, while only 20 succeed. This certainly does not imply that you have committed fraud against anyone."

The actor further praised the industry people for helping him in the situation. He said, "Over the past 25 years—from my village all the way to Mumbai—there isn't a single person who hasn't stood by me. There isn't a single director or producer who hasn't called me back for work. If the industry hadn't been with me, how could I have done so many films?"

Bringing the discussion about his difficult phase to a close, Rajpal Yadav stated, "I hold the Judiciary, the Legislature, and the Executive in the highest regard. I have complete faith in our justice system. I did not start this battle, but it will be brought to an end because of me. There have been many misunderstandings; people ought to hear the full story."
