About Amar Singh Chamkila Movie

Amar Singh Chamkila brings to life the story of Punjab’s most celebrated yet controversial folk musician. Known for his bold lyrics and fearless commentary on love, relationships, and society, Chamkila rose to immense fame during his short career. Despite his popularity, his songs often stirred debate for challenging social norms, which made him both admired and criticised in equal measure. Tragically, Chamkila and his wife, Amarjot, were assassinated in 1988 when he was just 27 years old, cementing his place as a legendary figure in Punjabi music history.

Meanwhile, in the Netflix film, Diljit Dosanjh steps into the shoes of Chamkila, while Parineeti Chopra plays Amarjot. Their performances have been widely appreciated for their depth and emotional honesty. Dosanjh, in particular, has been lauded for capturing Chamkila’s unmatched energy and charisma on stage, along with his vulnerability off it. Critics and fans alike have praised the authenticity with which the actor has portrayed the folk singer’s journey from a young dreamer to a cultural icon.

These successes have paved the way for more Indian content to be celebrated internationally. The 53rd International Emmy Awards will be held in New York City on 24th November 2025.
