Television actor Arun Govil, who is known for playing Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, is set to embrace the role of Dasharatha in Ranbir Kapoor starrer magnum opus of the same name on the big screen. The first look of the Ramayana movie has been out and is the talk of the town currently. But Govil’s co-star from Ramanand Sagar’s show, Dipika Chikhlia, who played the role of Goddess Sita, has shared some different views of him playing the role of Dasharatha. The actress stated that it is difficult for her to see as Arun Govil playing Dasharatha ‘a little out of context’.
In an interview with the Times of India, Dipika shared her opinion about Arun Govil’s role as Dasharatha in the Ramayana movie. The actress said, “I have seen him as Ram, and I’ve seen myself as Sita. For me to see him as Dasarath is really a little out of context. I mean, if you played Ram, then you are Ram.”
In an earlier interview, the actress also objected that people should not make films on mythology. Dipika told India Today, “One should not tamper around with religious texts. I don’t think one should be doing it and just leave it aside. Just don’t do this. There are so many stories that you can talk about besides Ramayan. Discuss many freedom fighters. There’s so much that one can talk about; unsung heroes who were valiant in history for freedom. Why only Ramayan?”
Coming back to the Ramayana movie, the film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Arun Govil as Dashratha, Indira Krishnan as Kausalaya, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, Mohit Raina as Lord Shiva (reported), Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjiva, Kunal Kapoor as Indra Dev, Shobana as Kaikasi, Satyen Chaturvedi as Sumantra. The film has been directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It is slated to be released in 2026. The second part will be released in 2027.
