Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi are gearing up for the release of Dhadak 2. The movie has been directed by Shazia Iqbal and also stars Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Sachdeva and others in pivotal roles. The film is a spiritual sequel to Dhadak (2018) and a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018). But, do you know makers had to wait for six months to get the remake rights from Pa Ranjit? Here is all you need to know:
Dhadak 2 was delayed for six months
According to a report in Aaj Tak, the co-producer of Dhadak 2, Meenu Arora claimed that it was not easy to convince the Tamil film's producer Pa Ranjit. Meenu had to run around for 6 months to get the remake rights from him because Pa Ranjit had a doubt that the original meaning and soul of the film would be lost if a remake is made in Bollywood. It took Meenu six months to convince him.
Pa Ranjit was finally convinced when he saw Meenu Arora's emotional investment in the project, and she believes that stories like this need to be told in different languages. According to Meenu, Dhadak 2's portrayal of love thwarted by caste discrimination is what makes it special as it directly resonates with human emotions. The film's exploration of the pain and longing that arises from such societal pressures is a powerful narrative that transcends language barriers.
Dhadak 2: Censor board demanded 16 major cuts
Despite the filmmakers' efforts to ensure that Dhadak 2 met all parameters, the censor board demanded significant changes. The film underwent 16 cuts and was given a 'U/A 16+' rating, indicating a maturity category just below 'A'. Several dialogues were modified, including one that originally read, "3,000 years of backwardness will not end in 70 years," which was changed to "Centuries-old backwardness will not end in 70 years."
Another dialogue, reportedly referencing Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshiram, was also altered from "Nilesh, are you seeing this pen, it is ruling" to "This small lid is just a part of the whole pen and the rest of it is us, still why are we sitting on our heads."
