Ed Sheeran's latest collaboration with Indian singer Arijit Singh for the song Sapphire has become the talk of the town. Not only did the duo's vocals captivate the audience, but the special appearance by Shah Rukh Khan also grabbed the spotlight. After the massive response to the song and the surprising collaboration, Sheeran penned a special note for Arijit. He revealed how he was left spellbound by Arijit's voice after listening to the song Tum Hi Ho from the movie Aashiqui 2.
Ed Sheeran praised his Sapphire co-singer, Arijit Singh, sharing the track's video along with a heartfelt confession about his admiration for the latter's vocals and talent. His post read, "I firstbecame aware of @arijitsingh music when I watched Aashiqui 2 and heard Tum Hi Ho. I was proper spellbound by his voice, the song, the scene in the movie. I checked him out, and got in touch, and said whenever you wanna sing together, I’m down. He was playing London, so I went to guest with him and sing Perfect there, it was an incredible show."
Ed revealed how he was excited to work with Arijit during their meeting in London. He even played an early version of Sapphire for him. The O Maahi singer was quick to add his input to it.
British singer stated, "I checked him out, and got in touch, and said whenever you want to sing together I’m down. He was playing london, so i went to guest with him and sing Perfect there, it was an incredible show. He continued by stating, “We then were pen pals over email for a bit, until I was in India for tour. I said to him, we should finish this in person, and he said, please come to my home town so I can show you my home and culture. I was with my dad on tour, which is a rarity to get so much one-on-one time with him. Me and him got a flight to Kolkata, then a 5 and a half hour drive to his home town."
Ed brought his desi avatar to his new track Sapphire and sang Punjabi lyrics with Arijit, which made Indian fans demand that he be given an Aadhaar card.
Recalling how the Bollywood singer taught him Punjabi words, the Shape Of You hitmaker added, "Arijit taught me Punjabi and how to pronounce it all properly, and showed me Sitar. We then had dinner, and scooted around the village to see the sunset and moon with my dad. Was a proper core memory I’ll always cherish with my father, and I’m honoured to have created in this way with Arijit."
Further praising the singer, ED stated, "He’s one of the most talented humans I’ve ever met, and I’m so grateful he shared his talent with me for this song. The full Punjabi version we recorded will be out in a couple of weeks, but until then, I’ll be drip-feeding fun videos from our time together."
Ed and Arijit's musical collaboration video Sapphire was released on June 5, and fans still can't get over it. What stood out in the track was Sheeran's rendition of the Punjabi line 'Cham cham chamke sitare wargi.' Arijit's vocals and the sitar also played a massive role.
