Television and film producer Ekta Kapoor, often called the queen of Indian TV, has built an unmatched legacy in the entertainment industry. Over the years, she has introduced many fresh faces and turned them into stars through her popular shows. Recently, Ekta found herself in the spotlight once again but this time not for a new project, but for a series of advertisements that sparked controversy and led her to issue a public apology.
Ekta took to her Instagram stories to share a short video where she openly apologised to all the actors she has criticised in the past. In the clip, she said, “After my recent bout of acting in the ads, I want to publicly apologise to every actor I have ever told, ‘Your performance was not up to the mark.’ I am truly sorry.” The producer’s humble admission quickly caught the attention of fans and fellow industry members, many of whom praised her for her honesty.n the apology came after Ekta’s appearance in several advertisements for various brands. One of the ads featured her saying, “I gave the world K-drama,” a line that drew mixed reactions online. Many viewers interpreted it as a reference to her hugely popular TV shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kkusum, and Pavitra Rishta as all of which became iconic parts of Indian television history.

In another clip from the same campaign, Ekta was seen jokingly commenting that “some of the actors didn’t even know how to act.” This statement did not sit well with audiences, especially those from the television industry, who felt it disrespected the hard work of actors. Following the backlash, the advertisement was reportedly taken down from social media. Realising the extent of the controversy, Ekta decided to clear the air and express her regret publicly.
On the other hand, Ekta Kapoor's Netflix film Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery recently won the award for Best Hindi Film at the 71st National Film Awards. Directed by Yashowardhan Mishra and produced by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the film stars Sanya Malhotra, Anant Joshi, Vijay Raaz, and Rajpal Yadav. Sharing her excitement after the win, Ekta said, “Attending the National Awards and celebrating Kathal’s victory is a magical moment for our entire team at Balaji. This story was created to highlight unique, authentic Indian narratives, and this recognition makes the journey unforgettable.” She went on to thank the jury and Netflix for supporting original Indian storytelling and taking Kathal from India’s heartlands to a global audience.
