The worst natural disaster to hit Punjab since 1988 has been caused by heavy rains swelling the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, along with seasonal rivulets. The flooding situation was intensified by unprecedented monsoon rains in the upper catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. It has affected over 1,900 villages and claimed 56 lives. The livelihoods of thousands of farming families are at risk due to the destruction of crops across 1.98 lakh hectares.
Besides Badshah, several celebrities, including singer Diljit Dosanjh, Ammy Virk, Sonam Bajwa, Gippy Grewal, Ranjit Bawa, Inderjit Nikku, Sunanda Sharma, and Karan Aujla, among others, have extended their support in aiding those affected by the floods.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has also extended help to families in Punjab who are suffering after devastating floods. His charitable organisation, the Meer Foundation, in association with local NGOs, delivers relief kits to those who have lost their homes, farmland, and belongings in the disaster.
