Ikkis: Dharmendra’s final film, Ikkis, is set to release in cinemas on January 1, 2026. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, the war biopic stars Agastya Nanda and Simar Bhatia in lead roles, with the legendary actor appearing in an important supporting role. The film holds deep emotional value for both the audience and Dharmendra’s family, as it marks the veteran star’s final appearance on the big screen.
As fans prepare to watch their beloved superstar for the last time, Dharmendra’s sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol have planned a special screening of Ikkis to honour their late father’s legacy. The tribute event will take place in Mumbai next week, ahead of the film’s theatrical release. According to the invitation, the screening will be held on December 29 at PVR ICON, Andheri. Sunny and Bobby Deol are expected to address the media during the event, marking their first public appearance and statement since their father’s passing in November. The screening is expected to be an emotional moment for the Deol brothers, who performed their father’s last rites with heavy hearts. Members of the film industry and the media are also likely to attend the event to pay their respects to the iconic actor.

Meanwhile, in Ikkis, Dharmendra plays the role of Agastya Nanda’s father. However, the two characters do not share many scenes, as their storylines unfold in different timelines. Despite limited screen time, Dharmendra’s role is said to be impactful and emotionally resonant. Director Sriram Raghavan revealed in an interview with ANI that Dharmendra was only able to watch the first half of the film before his health deteriorated. Sharing his regret, Raghavan said, “I met him in October. That time he was okay, but he was not too well. He did watch the first half and waited for the second half. I wanted him to see the film in its entirety. Somehow, that couldn’t happen. He is not here to enjoy the work he had done, and people appreciate that. That is a regret we have,” he shared.
On the other hand, Producer Dinesh Vijan also spoke about the emotional impact the film has had on Dharmendra’s family. He mentioned that none of the family members, including Prakash Kaur, Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta, Ajeita, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, have watched the film yet. Reflecting on their bond, Vijan said, “I think they’ll only cry. I just wish our kids could love us as much as they love him. It was heartbreaking to see them. But it was also beautiful. Because that’s how you should love your father,” he said.

Ikkis is based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, one of India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardees. He was martyred during the 1971 Indo-Pak war at the age of 21. The film highlights his bravery during the Battle of Basantar, where he reportedly destroyed several enemy tanks before sacrificing his life.
