Actor Akshay Kumar continues to hold his own in the film industry. Since the 1990s, he has won over audiences with his performances across romance, comedy, and action genres. After a career spanning three decades, is he planning to step away from the big screen? The actor has now broken his silence regarding his retirement plans.
Today marked the trailer launch of Akshay's comedy film Welcome to the Jungle, where the actor spoke about his retirement plans. When asked if the thought of stepping away from work ever crosses his mind, the actor said, "It happens at 4 AM when I wake up, but just five seconds later, I remember that I have to go for a shoot."
"Then I recall that 300 people are waiting for me and I need to head to the set. So, it lasts for only five seconds. Then I think I’ll retire the next day. But then I wake up at 4 AM again, and the whole cycle repeats. That is how 36 years have gone by," he futher added.
Elaborating on his retirement plans, Akshay Kumar said, "What would happen if I retired? I’d end up doing electrician work at home. I’d become a dog walker. I’d become a gardener. I’d have to do all the household chores myself. I think it’s better to go to work. I won’t retire; that’s the better option."
Speaking about spending time with his family, the actor mentioned that whenever he plans or attempts to do so, they always ask when he is returning to work. He further added, "To be honest, I feel the very word 'retire' is wrong. A person should retire only when there are just five seconds left before their death—when, at the moment of passing, they say, 'Well, I'm retiring now.' That would be more appropriate. Don't worry about retirement; keep working. If you want a long life, keep working."
