A multi-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s New Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon. Several people are feared trapped under the debris, PTI reported.

The Delhi Fire Service was alerted around 3:30 pm, after which Delhi Police and fire brigade teams were rushed to the spot.

Rescue personnel are currently searching through the rubble for people who may be trapped. Teams are working to clear the debris and locate those inside the collapsed structure. Further details, including the number of people trapped and any casualties, are awaited.

People Gather At Collapse Site

Images and visuals from the location showed dozens of people surrounding the destroyed building, some attempting to clear debris with their hands, and others filming the rescue effort with their mobile phones.

Traffic Advisory Issued 

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory amid the ongoing rescue operation. Traffic movement has been affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads.

Residents and commuters are advised to steer clear of the scene at all costs. Motorists are requested to refrain from stopping, parking or congregating at the collapse scene to allow free movement of ambulances, fire tenders and other emergency vehicles.

The traffic police have urged commuters to follow directions issued by personnel deployed in the area and keep the roads clear.

Satya Niketan Building Collapse Last Month

The Seemapuri incident comes weeks after a building collapse in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan area.

Seven students died when a five-storey PG building collapsed on September 6. Five people, including the building owner, Hariram Gupta, were detained by police.
