Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan is one of the highly-anticipated movies of the year. The movie had been facing back to back legal setbacks which has led to its delay in theatres. Now, the producers of the Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan have officially moved to withdraw their writ petition against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). KVN Productions, represented by counsel Vijayan Subramanian, informed the court that they now intend to resolve the certification impasse through the board’s internal administrative mechanisms rather than continuing the litigation.
The matter was listed for withdrawal before Justice PT Asha on Tuesday. This shift in strategy comes after the producers initially sought a court directive to force the CBFC to issue a certificate based on a December 24 communication. The board’s delay had already derailed the film's original release date of January 9, causing significant friction for the high-profile project.
As Jana Nayagan is widely touted as the final film of Vijay’s acting career before his full-time transition into politics, the stakes for its release remain incredibly high. By abandoning the legal route, the production house appears to be seeking a more cooperative path to ensure the movie finally reaches theaters without further judicial intervention.

About the movie: H Vinoth’s much-anticipated action entertainer Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay in the lead alongside Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, and Pooja Hegde, was initially slated for a grand theatrical release on January 9 to coincide with the festive Pongal season. However, the film’s release plans hit an unexpected hurdle as it was yet to receive certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), creating uncertainty around its scheduled debut.
