Jay Thakkar, who is known for his work in popular Television shows like Uttaran, Pavitra Rishta, and Gutur Gu, had two theatrical releases on the same day. 20 years since he made his acting debut, the star has experienced it for the first time and termed it a ‘cinematic miracle’. His latest released films include Kapkapiii and Bhool Chuk Maaf, which hit the silver screens on May 23. The actor recently opened up about the joy and grind behind the glory and the roles that are finally putting his face on the big screen.
Jay Thakkar said, “It honestly felt like a cinematic miracle. After 20 years in the industry, this was the kind of moment I used to dream about as a kid standing outside a theatre, wondering when I’d see my face on a poster. Both films releasing on the same day felt like the universe acknowledging every bit of hard work. It wasn’t just a professional milestone—it was a deeply personal victory, like a second debut, but this time as a grown actor shaped by hustle and heartache. The overwhelming love for my characters makes it all feel surreal. My two decades of blood, sweat, and invisible scars are finally being recognized, and that kind of encouragement means the world to me.”
When asked about his preparation for both roles, Nanku in Kapkapiii and Sushil in Bhool Chuk Maaf, the actor shared, “Each character demanded its own unique rhythm. For Sushil, I really immersed myself in the Banarasi culture—the dialect, the body language, and that grounded, earthy innocence. Nanku, on the other hand, pushed me into a quirky blend of horror and comedy, where I had to carefully balance the absurd with something authentic. My foundation as a child actor gave me the ability to adapt quickly, and now, with experience, I’m able to add deeper layers and nuance to every role I take on.”
The actor further said, “I’m hungry for layered, complex characters—someone morally grey, maybe a flawed hero or an anti-hero. I’m drawn to psychological thrillers, courtroom dramas, and intense romantic stories. But I’m equally interested in portraying everyday people in slice-of-life narratives. I want to surprise audiences—and even surprise myself. I’ve worked in comedy, horror, mythology, and family drama; now, I want to take on roles that are raw, real, and risky. As long as the character resonates with me, I’m all in.”
