JFF 2025: The 13th edition of the Jagran Film Festival (JFF) recently concluded in New Delhi at Siri Fort Auditorium. The festival will now continue its journey to 14 more cities across India. One of the key highlights of the Delhi edition was the screening of filmmaker Anant Mahadevan’s Phule, based on the life of legendary social reformer Jyotirao Phule. The film, starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa in lead roles, left a lasting impression on the audience. After the screening, the packed auditorium gave the film a standing ovation, reflecting how powerfully it connected with viewers.

Phule tells the inspiring story of Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, pioneers of social reform in India. They dedicated their lives to education, widow remarriage, and gender equality, fighting against deeply rooted social barriers. Pratik Gandhi plays Jyotirao Phule, while Patralekhaa portrays Savitribai Phule. Both actors received high praise for their performances, which brought these historical figures to life with depth and authenticity.

Speaking about his role, Pratik Gandhi said, “It is an honour for me to portray Jyotirao on screen. Our film is built on the themes of reform, resistance, and hope. Watching the audience at JFF appreciate and celebrate this story with so much warmth was truly overwhelming. A strong story, no matter what era it belongs to, will always touch people deeply.”

Furthermore, Patralekhaa also shared her experience of playing Savitribai Phule, “Her life was about struggle, compassion, and unshakable conviction. We are happy that our film received such love at JFF. Stories like these are meant to keep the courage of such great figures alive for future generations.”

Additionally, director Anant Mahadevan also expressed gratitude, “When a film is screened outside of theatres at a festival and still receives such a positive response, it feels very special. I am thankful to everyone at JFF who welcomed Phule with so much love.”

The screening of Phule at JFF 2025 not only celebrated the legacy of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule but also highlighted how relevant their fight for equality and education remains today. As the festival continues to travel across cities, Phule is expected to spark many more conversations around social change and reform.
