Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and jointly produced by Dulquer and Rana Daggubati under Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, the period drama is set in 1950s Madras. The Tamil movie delves into the fascinating yet turbulent world of cinema, exploring the relationship between a filmmaker and his protege. Dulquer plays Chandran, a popular actor hailed as the “King of Acting”, while Samuthirakani takes on the role of Ayya, the director who shaped his rise to stardom.
Dulquer Salmaan took to his Instagram to make the trailer release announcement. The trailer opens with Chandran basking in the glory of his fame before his ego starts to clash with Ayya’s creative vision. What begins as a professional disagreement soon spirals into a fierce battle of pride and power. The conflict reaches its peak when Chandran renames Ayya’s female-centric film Shaantha to Kaantha, an act that symbolises his need for control. Their mentor-protege bond quickly turns into a war of wills, filled with emotional tension and heated confrontations. Fans have praised the trailer for its gripping portrayal of ambition and rivalry, with many calling it a “sure-shot blockbuster” in the making.
Meanwhile, Kaantha promises an intense blend of drama and psychological tension, highlighting the darker side of ambition and fame. The trailer hints at a story that goes beyond glamour, shedding light on the fragile balance between admiration and ego in the world of cinema. The visuals, shot by Spanish cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez, bring 1950s Madras to life with remarkable authenticity, while Jhanu Chanthar’s music adds depth and emotion to the narrative.
