Actor and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut recently opened up about her journey in Bollywood, comparing her struggles to those of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Speaking at a PHDCCI event in Delhi, Kangana reflected on her humble beginnings and the challenges she faced while making a name for herself in the film industry. Kangana hails from Bhamla in Himachal Pradesh and left home at the age of 15 to pursue her dreams. At 19, she made her Bollywood debut with Gangster, which earned her critical acclaim. Over the years, she has starred in several successful films such as Fashion, Queen, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, earning four National Film Awards along the way. Despite facing setbacks and controversies, Kangana has remained one of Bollywood’s most talked-about and fearless stars.
Kangana Ranaut said, “Why did I get so much success? There is probably nobody else who came from a village and achieved this kind of success in the mainstream. You talk about Shah Rukh Khan he is from Delhi and convent-educated. I am from a small village called Bhamla that no one had even heard of.” The actor added that she believes her honesty both with herself and others has been a key factor behind her achievements. In contrast, Shah Rukh Khan was born and raised in Delhi. His father worked at the National School of Drama canteen, while his mother was a magistrate. After losing both parents early, Shah Rukh began his acting career on television with shows like Fauji and Circus before shifting to Mumbai in 1991. With films such as Darr, Baazigar, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, he quickly became one of the biggest and most enduring stars in Indian cinema.

Meanwhile, Kangana’s most recent film, Emergency, which also marked her directorial debut, failed to make an impact at the box office. The film explored the political turmoil during India’s 1975–1977 Emergency period. Looking ahead, she is set to make her Hollywood debut with the horror drama Blessed Be the Evil, releasing next year. She will also appear in AL Vijay’s Tamil psychological thriller opposite R. Madhavan and the political drama Bharat Bhagya Vidhata.
On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan is preparing for his next big release, King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film also stars his daughter Suhana Khan and Deepika Padukone and is expected to hit cinemas at the end of next year.
