Vishnu Manchu's mythological epic Kannappa is all set to hit theatres worldwide on June 27, 2025. Advance bookings for the film have begun in North America and will start in India on June 25. The film is expected to make history with its global opening, potentially becoming the first devotional drama to achieve a Rs 100-crore day-one gross in Telugu cinema. With high anticipation, Kannappa is poised for one of the biggest global openings for a Telugu-language film.
Kannappa is set to become a pan-India spiritual spectacle with international appeal, releasing on over 5,400 screens globally. The film will screen in more than 4,300 locations across India, including all major premium formats, and over 1,100 locations overseas. Notably, the U.S. release will feature over 200 premiere shows, a record-breaking number for a devotional Telugu film.
About the film: The movie stars Vishnu Manchu in the titular role, while Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Preity Mukhundhan and Madhoo play supporting roles. B-town star Akshay Kumar is making his Telugu movie debut with Kannappa which makes the film more interesting to watch.
According to the trailer, Kannappa, played by Manchu Vishnu, is a skeptic who doesn't believe in Lord Shiva, viewing idols as mere stones. A series of life events make Kannappa encounter an unseen power and energy. Lord Shiva, played by Akshay Kumar, teaches Kannappa a lesson to change his perspective. The film explores Kannappa's journey from skepticism to devotion, highlighting the transformative power of faith and spiritual discovery. Watch the trailer here:
The movie includes special cameos by Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal. Kannappa was formally launched on August 18, 2023, while its principal photography began on September 25, 2025 in New Zealand. If the reports are to be believed, Mohanlal, Prabhas and Akshay Kumar didn't take any remuneration for their cameo roles which was mentioned by actor Vishnu Manchu in an interview.
