Recalling her early days of her relationship with Antony, she revealed they began dating after she completed Class 12. In college, her mother, however, discovered the two after reading her personal diary.
Keerthy revealed, "When I was in college, my mother read my diary. It had everything." When she tried to question the intrusion, Menaka's response was, "I'm your mother; I can read your diary."
After the incident, Keerthy, who loved writing, stopped maintaining a diary altogether.
"I don't even know where the diary is now. I really wish I could get it back. But I have a feeling that my mom burned it," she added.

Keerthy Suresh Says Antony Thattil's Religion Created Problems At Home
After her relationship came to light, Keerthy’s family opposed the connection with Antony, who is Christian, while she comes from a Hindu family.
When asked about why the couple took 15 years to get married, Keerthy said, "We met in December 2009, and we started dating in January 2010. In 2024, we got married. Since he's a Christian, there obviously were problems at home that I had to face. It took a while for me to convince.”

In earlier instances, Keerthy also spoke about the complications she had to face at home for being in an interfaith relationship. While appearing on Jagapathi Babu's talk show Jayammu Nischayammu Raa in 2015, she revealed that she assumed that her family would object to Antony because of their religious differences.
Initially, while her mother had apprehensions, her father was surprisingly showing support.
"At home, we assumed we might have issues due to religious differences. I spoke to Dad one day four years ago, but he made it smooth. It was nothing as I had imagined," she revealed.

Keerthy and Antony met through mutual friends in December 2009 and began dating. Keerthy's was just a student, while Antony was building his own business.
In her earlier conversation with Jagapathi Babu, Keerthy explained that marriage was not an immediate possibility because both needed time to establish their careers.
"We needed time; we started dating in 2010. I still needed to finish college and have a career," she said.
Both of them decided to keep their relationship private and away from public eyes. Keerthy said that they deliberately avoided travelling alone and always had vacations with friends to avoid attention.
Keerthy then revealed that Antony was very much uncomfortable with the sudden public attention after their wedding was announced. Keerthy recalled that he would repeatedly ask, "Are there paps here?"
