Bollywood’s legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu has taken legal action against his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya after she made a series of serious allegations against him in a recent interview. Bhattacharya claimed that Sanu not only abandoned her and their children but also subjected them to mental and emotional suffering. In response, the singer, through his lawyer Sana Raees Khan, has issued a legal notice to counter what he has described as defamatory statements that damage his reputation and legacy.
Kumar Sanu’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, released an official statement strongly defending the singer. A part of her statement read, “For over 40 years, Mr. Kumar Sanu has poured his soul into music, giving joy to millions and earning love and respect across the world. Hurtful Lies may create noise for a moment, but they can never erase the legacy of an artist who has given a lifetime of music and memories to generations.” She added that legal steps will continue to be taken to protect the singer’s image. “We will ensure that malicious attempts to defame him are met with the full force of the law to protect his dignity, legacy and family honour. No individual or media platform has the right to malign a father’s honour or trade his family’s respect for sensationalism.”

On the other hand, Rita Bhattacharya has made detailed allegations against Kumar Sanu. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, she recalled how she faced struggles after their marriage fell apart. She alleged that Sanu’s sister was also partly responsible for their differences. She said, “He ran away. He even took the microwave and the fans with him. After that, he stopped milk and medicine deliveries to the house, but fortunately, both the milk man and the doctor continued visiting. You don’t know how much this man has tortured me and my three children.” These strong accusations have now turned into a public controversy, with Sanu’s side firmly denying them and taking legal recourse. Bhattacharya, however, has not yet publicly responded to the legal notice.

For those unfamiliar with their history, Kumar Sanu and Rita Bhattacharya married in the 1980s. However, their relationship eventually broke down, and they divorced in 1994. The couple have three children together – Jiko, Jassi and Jaan Kumar Sanu, the latter of whom followed his father’s footsteps into music. At present, while Kumar Sanu continues to focus on his music and legacy, this fresh controversy has stirred debates among fans and media about the personal lives of public figures and the boundaries between private disputes and public image.
