Dhurandhar: Aditya Dhar’s upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun, is set to release on December 5, 2025. But just days before its release, the film became the centre of a legal dispute. The parents of the late Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mohit Sharma filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, asking for an immediate stay on the film. Now, after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reviewed the film again and allowed it to move forward, the officer’s brother, Madhur Sharma, has shared his reaction.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Madhur Sharma said he appreciated the CBFC’s quick response following the High Court’s directive. He added that while he does not know what information the board used to reach its conclusion, he trusts that the examination was done properly. The CBFC informed the court that Dhurandhar is a work of fiction and does not depict the life of Major Mohit Sharma. Madhur said he hopes the film carries a clear disclaimer so audiences are not misled. Madhur Sharma said, “I’m sure they’ve followed the process and they were very quick to take a decision. We don’t know what data CBFC has relied on, but I’m sure they have done their due diligence. They have said it is a work of fiction, so I hope a disclaimer will be added.”

Madhur Sharma also expressed that a special screening for Major Sharma’s parents would have helped clear up online confusion. He explained that the people who lived closest to the late officer are the best judges of whether the film resembles his life in any way. He said, “A screening for the parents could have cleared any misconceptions floating on social media. People who lived with him their whole life are in a better position to tell if anything in the film reflects him.”

Furthermore, Madhur added that the family is not looking for any personal gain. Instead, they simply want viewers to watch the film with empathy, not only for their family but for every family that has lost a soldier in service. He said that if the film is indeed inspired by Major Sharma, the makers should acknowledge it rather than create unnecessary hype. When the trailer released, many viewers noticed similarities between Ranveer Singh’s character and the late Major, which sparked discussions online. He said, “There is no benefit the parents are looking for. We want people to take a sympathetic, empathetic perspective. This is not just for us but for every family that has lost a son in military operations.”
Meanwhile, following the High Court order, the CBFC re-examined the film. After reviewing it again, the board confirmed that Dhurandhar does not contain any references or elements connected to Major Mohit Sharma’s life. The film had already been viewed by the Examining Committee on November 28, 2025, which suggested an adult certificate with minor cuts. Even after re-evaluation, the CBFC upheld its original decision. In court, Justice Sachin Datta noted that only the film’s trailer was publicly available at the time and there was no proof the story reflected the officer’s life.
