Maareesan: The much-anticipated Tamil movie Maareesan, featuring acclaimed actors Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, is all set to hit theatres on 25th July 2025. The film has generated quite a buzz, especially as it brings the duo back together after their successful pairing in Maamannan (2023). Their previous collaboration was both a critical and commercial success, which has raised expectations for this new outing. Tamil movie Maareesan promises to offer something different to Tamil cinema audiences. Ahead of its theatrical premiere know the movie’s cast, plot, and more details here.

Maareesan Cast, Crew And Story 

Besides the lead pair, Maareesan boasts a talented supporting cast. Vivek Prasanna plays the role of Fahadh’s close friend, while Kovai Sarala and PL Thenappan appear as police officers. Other key cast members include Sithara, Livingston, Renuka, Saravana Subbiah, Krishna, Haritha, and Telephone Raja. Tamil movie Directed by Sudheesh Sankar and written by V. Krishna Moorthy, who also serves as the creative director. Notably, this film marks Sudheesh Sankar’s comeback to Tamil films after more than a decade, with his last Tamil directorial being Aarumaname in 2009. 

Although the makers have kept the main storyline under wraps, the teaser gives a brief look into what’s in store. It begins with picturesque shots of Fahadh and Vadivelu on a bike, setting a cheerful, road-trip vibe. But things take a turn when they start singing the classic number Aaha Inba Nilaavinile from the 1957 film Mayabazar. Suddenly, the visuals take on a darker tone, hinting that this will be a suspense-filled thriller with unexpected twists.

Maareesan Early Reactions

Meanhwile, well-known movie tracker Ramesh Bala has already shared his thoughts, giving the Tamil movie a 3.5 out of 5 rating. He called it “a bold attempt that pays off” and praised the lead actors’ performances, especially the chemistry between Fahadh and Vadivelu. He also appreciated the music and background score, describing them as “layered and fantastic.” Bala believes that director Sudheesh Sankar has managed to craft a gripping and content-rich story that’s “worth a watch.” On the othe rhand, fellow industry expert Sreedhar Pillai also praised Maareesan, calling it “a well-made emotional road thriller.” He highlighted the film’s powerful climax and the excellent screen presence of both lead actors.

Box Office Clash: Maareesan vs Thalaivan Thalaivii 

Tamil movie Maareesan will clash at the box office with Vijay Sethupathi’s much-awaited film Thalaivan Thalaivii, which is releasing on the same day. The film also stars Nithya Menen, Yogi Babu, Mynaa Nandhini, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Deepa, and Roshini Haripriyan.  The story follows two headstrong lovers who navigate a turbulent married life where passion and conflict intertwine, creating an intense, emotional and hilarious chaos.
