Madharaasi Box Office Day 3: AR Murugadoss’ Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, and Vidyut Jammwal, released in theatres on 5th September 2025. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has managed to hold its ground at the box office. Over its first weekend, it has earned more than Rs 60 crore worldwide, showing strong support from Tamil audiences in particular. Although its performance in Telugu and Hindi markets has been weak, the strong support from Tamil Nadu audiences has helped the film achieve a solid worldwide figure. Industry experts believe that Madharaasi may continue to earn steadily in the coming weekdays.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Madharaasi collected Rs 36.40 crore net and Rs 42.75 crore gross in India in its first three days. Alongside this, the film brought in Rs 20.25 crore from overseas markets, taking its worldwide first weekend total to Rs 63 crore. While the numbers are impressive, they fall short of Sivakarthikeyan’s last big hit, Amaran, which earned Rs 104.50 crore worldwide in just three days. The film has performed best in its original Tamil version, which accounted for Rs 32.65 crore of the total domestic collections. The Telugu version contributed Rs 3.45 crore, while the Hindi version underperformed, bringing in only Rs 3 lakh. On Sunday, the film recorded an occupancy rate of 56% for Tamil shows compared to just 19% for Telugu screenings.
Meanwhile, when compared with other recent films, Madharaasi may not match up to the massive opening of Amaran or Murugadoss’ previous project Sikandar with Salman Khan, which collected Rs 123.75 crore in three days. However, it is expected to surpass the lifetime collections of Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, which ended with Rs 63.45 crore. Trade reports also suggest it may eventually cross Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen’s Thalaivan Thalaivii, which earned Rs 83.6 crore worldwide.
On the other hand, even as the film celebrates its successful start, the makers have raised concerns about unauthorised content being shared online. Sri Lakshmi Movies, the producers of Madharaasi, released a statement cautioning fans, crew members, and others against circulating behind-the-scenes material without approval. They wrote, “During this moment of celebration, there is a slight cause of concern. We have observed that many pages, artists, and crew who have worked on the film are circulating and posting BTS stills, making videos and other unauthorised content from the film. This is unfair to the producers.” The note further added, “Any accounts doing such will be reported and brought down. Any content that goes out from the film should be approved and authorised by Sri Lakshmi Movies as the producers.”
