Malayalam superstar Mammootty has been ruling the industry for five decades now and his contribution to the cinema can now be studied as a course at a college in Kerala. As per a report by OnManorama, Mammootty’s career is in the syllabus under the history of Malayalam Cinema module at Maharaja’s College, Kochi in Kerala. The report further claims that students of the BA History at the college will study Mammootty’s life, career and his contribution to the cinema. The chapter titled Sensing Celluloid: History of Malayalam Cinema explores his life and career in detail. He is also an alumnus of the college. Apart from Mammootty, the chapter also includes Mohanlal, Sathyan, Prem Nazir, Madhu, Jayan, Sheela, Sharadha, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Padmarajan. The syllabus is slated to be implemented from 2025-2026 academic year.

On the work front, Mammootty was last seen in Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse. The film was released in theatres in January this year. The film marks the Malayalam debut of Gautham Vasudev Menon. It also features Sushmitha Bhat, Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, Gokul Suresh, Viji Venkatesh, Shine Tom Chacko, Vineeth Radhakrishnan and Siddique in key roles.

Mammootty has also appeared in other language production movies like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. In the past five decades, he has appeared in over 400 movies. He received several accolades such as three National Film Awards, eleven Kerala State Film Awards, eleven Kerala Film Critics Awards and fifteen Filmfare Awards South. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shri award. He made his acting debut in the Malayalam movie Anubhavangal Paalichakal in 1971. Since then, there has been no looking back for the star. Some of his hits include Turbo, Bazooka, Thalapathi, Abraham Ozler, Agent, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Big B and Christopher, to name a few.

Mammootty will be next seen in Kalamkaval, which is slated to release this year. It also features Meera Jasmine and Gibin Gopinath in pivotal roles. The movie has been directed by Jithin K. Jose.
