Manoj Bajpayee is well-known for his unwavering commitment to the art of acting and for constantly selecting parts that defy expectations rather than going along with the grain. Even while Shah Rukh Khan's supporters celebrated his win of the Best Actor National Award for Jawan in great numbers, some thought the selection was unfair and cited Manoj Bajpayee's much stronger performance in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai as evidence.

Manoj Bajpayee has now responded to the SRK comparisons and the latter's National Award victory. He told India Today that because it's gone, the conversation is pointless. "When it comes to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, yes, it is a very special film in my filmography and so was Joram. They are going to be on top of my filmography. But I don't discuss these things because it is a very loser conversation. It is in the past and it should be left alone," he said.

Manoj Bajpayee, four time National Award winner has expressed concern about how Indian film awards are changing, speculating that some, like the National Awards, may be sacrificing their artistic integrity in favor of commercial appeal. The National Film Awards, which are intended to recognize artistic excellence in India's varied film industry, are really coming under more and more criticism.

Manoj Bajpayee shared, "It’s not just about National Awards. It’s about all the awards that were revered. They should seriously think about how they are operating. Because it is not about my respect. I take care of my respect very cautiously when I’m choosing a film. But each and every organisation has to think of itself. That’s not my job. I think for me, the idea of an award show is wrong. It is just a piece of decoration in your house. Every day, you’re not going to stand in front of it and say, 'Wow, I got this'."
