Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returned to the television screens with its new season on July 29, 2025. The show aired on Star Plus and received a lot of love from the netizens. Ektaa Kapoor’s popular TV drama’s return sent a wave of excitement among the nostalgic fans. The iconic serial brought back the characters of Tulsi Virani, played by Smriti Irani and Mihir Virani, played by Amar Upadhyay. The duo played the role of husband and wife in the first season as well.
Amar Upadhyay recently opened up about the show’s return and expressed his thoughts on reuniting with his old co-star Smriti Irani. Speaking about the show’s comeback, Amar Upadhyay told Times of India TV, “It feels amazing to be back. I never imagined that the audience would be so excited to see us on screen again, especially in today’s time, or that they would still be waiting for us.”

He continued to express that nobody imagined such a warm response from the audience, because so much had changed - from evolving television space to the shift of choice in the new generation. He added, “We never thought the show would return.” The actor also mentioned that everybody was really happy with the response they received towards the show.
On being asked about working with his old leading lady, Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay shared that nothing felt different, and it was like Mihir and Tulsi were never separated for 25 years. He said, “Bilkul pehle ki tarah hai Smriti ke saath kaam karna. Aisa lag raha tha ki bus show chal he raha tha.” He further continued and said that the environment on the set was just like old times - everybody was laughing, joking around with each other, and it felt warm and welcoming.
Talking about the actress turned politician and his old friend Smriti Irani, Amar shared that she has not changed at all. He revealed that her behaviour was still the same as she was 25 years ago. The seasoned actor called Smriti down to earth, humble and polite.
Amar Upadhyay didn’t miss a chance to praise the maker of the show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and shared that it was Ektaa Kapoor’s decision to bring back the iconic drama. Calling her decision a ‘positive thought,’ he mentioned that Ektaa felt this was the right time to bring back the serial.
