The Government of India announced on Saturday that veteran actor, director, and producer Mohanlal will be honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed the announcement on Saturday evening, stating that the decision was made based on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee. The award recognises Mohanlal’s outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

The statement read, "The Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! The legendary actor, director, and producer is being honoured for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history."

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be presented to Mohanlal at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025. Last year, actor Mithun Chakraborty received the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022.

Mohanlal has made remarkable contributions to Indian cinema over a career spanning more than four decades. As a producer, he was awarded the Best Feature Film Award for Vanaprastham, highlighting his talent behind the camera as well. In recognition of his outstanding achievements in the film industry, the Government of India has honoured him with two of the nation’s most prestigious civilian awards: the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019.
