Veteran producer Shailendra Singh has revealed shocking details regarding his collaboration with Akshay Kumar on the box office failure 8 x 10 Tasveer. The 2009 movie lost more than Rs 85 crore at the box office. The producer said that after he personally spoke to the actor, who rejected his request to return a part of movie fee.

Akshay Kumar stated, "Nobody came to watch your film," implying that the producer alone should be held accountable for the failure, claimed producer in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. Shailendra Singh described Akshay Kumar as a clever businessman because he needed to explain his fee increases during contract talks.

Akshay Kumar's fee started at Rs 15 crore and reached Rs 36 crore, due to his 'lucky number 9' requirement. The producer disclosed that the film's expenses exceeded its budget, rising from an initial estimate of Rs 30-35 crore to more than Rs 85 crore due to actor's frequent changes in filming locations.

"Akshay is a very nice guy, very sporting but very money-minded. So Akshay has got a strategy. He starts slow. First, he will take Rs 15 cr from you, then he will take you to Rs 21 crore, then Rs 21 crore will turn to Rs 27 crore, then he will talk about his lucky number 9 so if it is Rs 33 crore, it will go to Rs 36 crore casually," said the producer.

Shailendra Singh recalled paying Rs 9 crore to Akshay Kumar for a song in his animated movie Jumbo. The producer, known for movies like Page 3, Malaamaal Weekly, Traffic Signal, among others claimed that Akshay Kumar is 'money-minded' and a 'businessman first, actor subsequently.'

Akshay Kumar once addressed money minded accusations at Aap Ki Adalat. Kesari 2 actor said, "Agar paisa kamaya hai toh loot ke nahi kamaya. Maine kaam karke kamaya hai. 8 saal se I have been the highest taxpayer. Toh, it cannot be that I am money-minded or anything. Money is an important aspect in life, you have to be practical."
