Director Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie has been making waves for significant reasons. The eagerly awaited movie of the year stars Rajinikanth in the lead role. This Tamil action-packed entertainer promises to be a new cinematic experience, featuring an intense face-off between Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna. Yes, you read that right. The Kuberaa actor recently confirmed that he is playing the villain in the movie. He revealed that it wasn't initially on the cards, but after hearing the full script from Lokesh Kanagaraj, he decided to take on the role.

Nagarjuna Plays Antagonist In Coolie

Nagarjuna, in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, opened up about his role in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie. The story hooked him and made him say yes to playing a villain role. The actor shared, "I don't know what made Lokesh come to me, but the first question he asked me was, 'Do you mind playing an antagonist?' He told me that if that wasn't on the cards at all, then we would just talk, have a cup of tea and he would take off. I told him honestly that I was not against it, but had to first listen to the script."

He called his role liberating in the movie. Nagarjuna continued, "I liked it so much that I made him come back six to seven times to figure out my role! But now, if anyone asked me how my role in Coolie was, I'd answer it with one word: liberating. There was no pressure in how I acted... unlike say, the character of Deepak that I play in Kuberaa. Deepak has to be a certain way all the time, even the manner in which he has a cup of coffee has to be decent. But in Coolie, all of that flew out of the window. "

He revealed how it was fun to be able to yell than it was ever possible while playing a leading role. The actor stated, "I could ask someone to shut up and get out of my face... which I could never do earlier! Having said that, everyone said I made for a very charming villain; Lokesh has presented me that way."

Nagarjuna used to confirm with the director for the portrayal of his role. "I had such a liberating experience. I asked him a couple of times if he was sure he wanted me to behave a certain way and if people really acted this way, and Lokesh would go, Yes sir, people are very evil!," he added.

About Coolie Movie Cast And Release Date

Apart from Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, the movie also stars a stellar cast including Upendra Rao, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan and Soubin Shahir. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is also expected to make a special appearance in the movie. Coolie is slated to release on August 14. Anirudh Ravichander composes music for the film.
