The winners of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards were announced on Monday, Novemeber 3. Mammootty bagged the Best Actor for Bramayugam, while Manjummel Boys won multiple honours. Actor Prakash Raj, who served as the jury chairman for this year's awards, attended a press conference during which he made some shocking remarks. When the actor was asked about Mammootty being snubbed at the National Awards despite delivering phenomenal performances over the years, Prakash Raj claimed that the National Awards are 'compromised'. He took a dig at the jury and the award system, saying that "files and piles are getting awards, and they don’t deserve Mammukka aka Mammootty."
During the Kerala State Film Awards press conference announcing the honourees, Prakash Raj opened up about Mammootty's chances of winning the National Film Awards and being overlooked despite acclaimed performances. He said, "I don't mind saying that National Film Awards are compromised. I am so happy to be a jury chairman of Kerala because when they called me, they said we need an outsider who is experienced, and we will not poke our hands into it, and we will let you take the decision."
He further added, "That is not happening in the National Awards, and we see it. When files and piles are getting awards! When such sort of a jury and such sort of a national government… they don't deserve Mammukka.”

Praising Mammootty's performance in Bramayugam and explaining why he deserved the Kerala State Film Best Actor Award, Prakash said, "The presence of Mammootty in Bramayugam and the nuances he carried just with his presence were very strong. Youngsters are yet to have that level of expression. This is not a charity organisation; we have to give the awards to the best. If he’s still relevant (at this age), that is something to be inspired by.”

Mammootty has previously won the National Award for Best Actor three times. However, his recent performances have been overlooked and have not received the recognition they deserve, as believed by his fans. The Best Actor award for Bramayugam marks Mammootty's seventh win in the category at the Kerala State Film Awards.
The winners of the 55th Kerala State Film Awards were announced at a press conference by Minister of Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian on Monday.
